- Wie können wir eine neue Welt voller Schönheit, Erfüllung und Produktivität schaffen? Die Performance zeigt, wie Migranten in Ghana aus scheinbar nutzlosen Materialien neues Leben kreieren. An den Stränden des Atlantik haben sie weggeworfene Gummisandalen gesammelt, die in der Performance eine Metapher für die weltweite Krise werden. In weiterer Zusammenarbeit mit Refugees in Hamburg werden entsorgte Sandalen zusammen genäht, um eine neue Installation aufzubauen.

- At the foot of my rubber sandals:
- working with migrants ("Shoe Shines") in Ghana

- We put on rubber sandals but mostly we fail to observe the effect of our action at the foot. This presentation is about the used rubber sandals art project Tale within Crossing in Takoradi/Ghana with rural-urban migrants who are shoe repairers. The collaborative art project which takes a look at the hidden side of the lives of shoe repairers in Ghana will enable the migrants to share their stories, obtain psychological support, re-establish new relationships and most likely to help to realize our plan of building together a home out of used rubber sandals. The government, community, various city and social welfare departments, artists, and organizations will indirectly benefit from this artistic intervention.

- Auf einer alternativen Reise in die Geschichte der Stadt setzen wir uns mit dem Symbol des Schiffs auseinander, das eng mit Hamburg verknüpft ist. Zwischen Speicherstadt und Überseequartier besichtigen wir verschiedene Orte, die sich mit dem Motiv des Schiffs in Verbindung bringen lassen. Die versteckten Schiffe in der Stadt machen die kolonialen Verflechtungen im öffentlichen Raum sichtbar. Sie sind gleichermaßen mit der kolonialen Expansion und Versklavung als auch mit Widerstand, Befreiung und Migration verflochten. Wie nehmen wir diese Verstrickungen wahr? Auf unserer Reise in die Geschichte der Speicherstadt begleiten uns dekoloniale Kritiker_innen und karibische Denker_innen. Ihre historisch-philosophische Arbeit hilft uns, die Verbindung der Stadt Hamburg mit der Symbolik des Schiffs neu zu lesen.

- Porto M, an object space for politics, memory and community

- Askavusa (in Sicilian: barefoot) was born on the Italian island Lampedusa in 2008. The collective has been active ever since, organising the LampedusaInFestival - of which seventh edition took place in September 2015 - and fighting for the rights of migrants and Lampedusani. In the spring 2014 Askavusa opened Porto M, a space where practices of politics, memory and community take place and where many objects are displayed which were owned by migrants who passed from Lampedusa. The talk will focus on Askavusa's work in Lampedusa and the link between migration and militarisation, an issue which is particularly evident on the island with Italy's southernmost military outpost in the Mediterranean Sea. In the ort_m exhibition Askavusa presents a selection of the Porto M objects.

- Vierzehn Menschen erzählen die Geschichte ihrer Flucht aus der Heimat. Zu Fuß, in Booten, mit Fluchthelfern. Manche sind noch Kinder, stark durch den Mut der Verzweiflung. Sie werden begleitet von Hoffnungen und Wünschen. Ihre persönlichen Geschichten und Erlebnisse von der Ankunft in Hamburg, im Landkreis Pinneberg, in Containerunterkünften, von ihren schlaflosen Nächten und den Opfern, die der Papierkrieg von ihnen fordert, mischen sich mit dem Raum einer Bannung, in dem sie Erfassungen, Handlungsbeschränkungen und Kontrollen ausgesetzt sind. Nicht selten, um schnell oder vielleicht erst nach Jahrzehnten wieder zurückgeschickt zu werden. Der Film erzählt durch Interviews von individuellen Kämpfen und visualisiert den Bannraum durch filmische Mittel.

- Zakaria Mohamed Ali, Somalia/Italy

- How to archive knowledge, memories and oral history of migration? Together with 24 journalists from Somalia, Zakaria Mohamed Ali left his country 2007 for Hargeisa/Somaliland where his escape for a better future began. On 13th of August 2008 he landed in Lampedusa in a boat with 43 people. Today Zakaria Mohamed Ali is a social worker in a refugee camp, and since 2011 he is a member of the Archives of Migrant Memory (Archivio Memorie Migranti AMM) in Rome. With the help of AMM he could return to Lampedusa 2012 as a free man and take part in the jury of the Lampedusa Film Festival. During his stay on the island, he took the opportunity to make his own short film showing him on the vestiges of his lost memories. Zakaria Mohamed Ali will show his film and give a lecture about the work of AMM.

- Im Rundgang geht es um die Gruppe Lampedusa in Hamburg und ihren Einsatz für ein kollektives und dauerhaftes Bleiberecht. Dabei werden konkrete Migrationsgeschichten, Fragen von Flucht und Asyl und das europäische Grenzregime thematisiert. An verschiedenen Stationen in St. Georg und im Münzviertel werden die alltäglichen Lebensbedingungen der Flüchtlinge, Möglichkeiten einer Anerkennung in Hamburg, Unterstützungsstrukturen, die Rolle des Hamburger SPD-Senats, der St. Pauli Kirche und der Polizei nachgezeichnet.

- Scenes of migrant rescue, confinement and border related death open in the multiple shores and islands of the Mediterranean. Discarded objects and boats are materializations of the European border zone and the violence it produces. The speakers of this panel have explored the ex-NATO base Loran on the island of Lampedusa in Italy where "migrant" boats and objects of rescue lay scattered on the ground. In addition, the abandoned building has remains of a refugee center that operated there in 2008 - 2011. Loran has evolved into an alternative site of conscience or a site of dark tourism for people who are drawn to the island, which globally represents a key "border spectacle."

- The panel speakers take a phenomenological approach to exploring places - what Guy Debord (1955 - 2006) termed psychogeography. Based on their life experience as well as racial and gendered positioning, the speakers have made different self-observations while visiting Loran. Adal Neguse and Asuquo Udo read the ruins through their experience of border violence and crossing the Mediterranean by boat. Karina Horsti interprets the site from her position as a citizen of the EU and a critical scholar. The speakers address the question: What would places like Loran mean for the present and future generations of Europeans? Are the objects significant for those who experienced the violence of the borderized zone and for the citizens of the nations that created it?

- Adal Neguse is a Swedish-Eritrean activist living and working in Stockholm. He came to Sweden as a quota refugee in 2004. His drawings based on eyewitness testimonies of torture in Eritrea have been published in UN and Amnesty international human rights reports.

- Asuquo Okon Udo is a Nigerian journalist, refugee activist in Hamburg, co-founder of Lampedusa in Hamburg, human right campaigner and refugee coordinator

- Karina Horsti is an Academy of Finland research fellow and a visiting scholar at the London School of Economics and Political Science (2016). Her research focuses on media and culture in the contexts of migration, cultural diversity, and humanitarianism. Her current projects examine public remembering of migration and bordering in cultural practices in Europe.
